Early in life I developed an interest and dedication to matters of the occult and the paranormal Along with my professional interest in psychiatry, parapsychology has inspired the subject matter for my creative writing Born in England, I lived for many years in Cambridge where I worked as an occupational therapist in remedial psychiatry My work was concerned with the rehabilitation of long term patients Alongside both individual and group counselling and the nurturing of practical living skills, this involved a variety of creative therapies, such as drama, music and art This allowed me to develop the use of creative writing as a therapeutic tool in the treatment of mental illness, which in turn gave me the opportunity to explore my own literary skills I emigrated from England to New Zealand in 1999 and now live on the East Coast with my husband and two cats I she continues to write, make music and recently develop an interest in creative photography and digital manipulation.

  • Real witches. Not your Disney or Burning Time bullsh*t broomstick and warty black-pointed hat stereotype. Extremely refreshing. This is how I portray them too, and I wish everyone would. This review would be five stars if it weren't for the issue of tense. There were moments where the tense felt awkward. But otherwise, what an addition you are to New Zealand Elenor, and thank you!

  • An absolutely delicious storyThis story is a mouth watering slice of heavenly delicious. I have highlighted a lot of text where I found profound bits of prose that almost seemed surreal. The story of sally and her cat is truly spellbinding. Miss Gill has done her research well and has given that delectable certain something to her writing that only fiction based on facts can have. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would recommend it 100%. Wonderful.

  • Loved this book. So many good passages in it. Loved what it was about, sometimes the dialogue bores me but I know how hard it is to write good dialogue, the stuff I write bores me too, it's so hard to get right. Sometimes feel like the women in these novels are way too posh and middle class, I'd prefer them to be more down to earth, struggle a bit more. But apart from that there are great swathes of the book I enjoyed. Was having a bit of a heart attack thinking omg she's written the same themes [...]

  • What can I say? I love this book, I read it and then when I found it in a second hand shop I HAD to buy it. It saved issuing it every year and now I can read it when ever I want. I have read it every year since it was written and the thrill hasn't dimmed. Yes it speaks to me. I've met Elenor and she is just magical, pun intended.

  • Great storyI was quickly caught up in the atmosphere of this story and wanted to keep reading until it was finished. The tense it is written in seemed unusual but possibly that contributed to the drama. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of past and present, and the ideas around the interconnectedness of every one.

  • Excellent story. Very well written. Hooked by end of first chapter. Subtle but has lots of suspense too. Will read more of her work.

  • Really enjoyed it, refreshingly easy to read with an interesting plot and great characters. Sad to have finished it.
