  • (Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Red Sparrow Press and NetGalley.)“If you finish the whole Polish dog, they’ll give you the next clue. If you don’t finish it, the scavenger hunt is over, and you’ve completely let me down.”This was a YA contemporary story about the friends left behind after one girl (Hope) died. The characters in this were okay, although I didn’t really connect with Sam very well. I thought that Aiden was qui [...]

  • Once in a while a book comes along that's pure magic. A book that has enough depth for you to get lost in it for days. A book that is original, thought-provoking and like nothing you've ever read before. A book that puts you through an emotional blender and when it spits you out, you are a bit different than before you read it. A bit wiser, a litte more understanding, a little less judgmental and very much in love."In the Hope of Memories" by Olivia Rivers is exactly that type of book. It was re [...]

  • A Dying Wish- 4.5 stars Hope is terminally ill. When she dies, she wants her friends, Kali- who cuts/self-mutilates & is also battling anorexia; Aiden-who suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & severe anxiety; Erik- who has LHON disease which is causing him to go blind very rapidly; & Sam- who was born with a gender disorder and was also in a bombing so is permanently disabled & in a wheelchair; to do one last thing in her honor- complete a scavenger hunt. The hunt Hope des [...]

  • I received a free digital copy from the author/publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest feedback. Hope Jackson is dead. But she didn't leave the people she left behind with nothing to not only help deal with their loss but also bring them together as well. Erik, Aiden, Kali and Sam - four completely different people with thing in common, Hope. They all knew her separately and loved her with all their hearts. When she dies, Hope sets them on a scavenger trail to help them deal with diffe [...]

  • In The Hope Of Memories by Olivia Rivers is not only one of the first books I read this year but also one of the best I've read in a while. This book gives me everything I've been looking for and more. Also, it's super diverse! The book has four main characters (Erik, Aiden, Kali, Sam), and they are all amazing and wonderful and also really broken. My favourite character is possibly probably certainly Sam. Sam does not identify as either a girl or a boy. I knew the moment someone asked what gender [...]

  • This book is exceptionally written. It takes a stroll through four POVs and pulls it off with ease. All praise for Mrs. Rivers. It maybe is the slightest bit slow pace (for me, at least), but the plot is quite original, and the characters are well written. So many important issues are included into the story, which takes away from the lightness of the read, but adds onto the general message; it makes the book quite haunting. The only thing that I can note as to why I didn't give it five stars, is [...]

  • "If you let people see how dark your drawings are, and how gorgeous they are, then they can see that sometimes the most beautiful things are broken."This is the perfect example of a book that tackles a lot of subjects with a lot of knowledge about all of them, without leaving anything behind, going in depth with all of them with incredible care. I think it's the perfect example of the real meaning of "diversity", that doesn't mean me vs. them, equal vs. different. Diversity means that we are all [...]

  • I was given an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange of an honest review. Actual rating: 2.5 starsI loved the premise of this book. Hope is sick. As a dying wish, she organizes a scavenger hunt for her friends to do once she is gone. I'm a big fan of scavenger hunts and the like, so you imagine that I was excited to dive into this book (the gorgeous cover also didn't hurt ;)).While this book is interesting, it didn't deliver. Hope's friends are a sappy bunch. I mean, none of them are no [...]

  • This book was such a great discovery, thanks to my book friend that recommended it to me.The writing was so beautiful I couldn't read it fast enough. It wasn't an easy read because the story is so moving I've also shed some tears. It broke my heart at times but it mended it back together in the end."If you let people see how dark your drawings are, and how gorgeous they are, then they can see that sometimes the most beautiful things are broken. People need to know that. They need your art. And, tru [...]

  • I beta read this book for my critique partner, Olivia. I've always known she was an exceptional author, but this one utterly blew me away. Dear god, she's talented. Off the charts talented. This book is unlike any other but it reminds me of Katja Millay's Sea of Tranquility and Colleen Hoover's stuff.I told Olivia it was like a modern-day Breakfast Club - four immensely different and quirky characters searching for themselves. I literally laughed and cried in the first chapter, and by the end of [...]

  • 2.5 This author's writing is phenomenal. I loved the premise as well. That being said, I ended up not connecting with the characters like I should have, too many POV's. What could have been a very authentic story line turned into an over-the-top social experiment with too many disorders and sexual identities and unrealistic banter and inner dialogue. It started to feel like an after-school special. Just not for me. But, curious where she goes with her next novel.

  • ★||Actual Rating: 4.5 stars||★I received this book from the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. There are five people in this book who the story is focused on. Even if one of them is dead.Erik sees an invitation outside his house to Hope's birthday party with an address on it but he ends up at Aiden's -Hope's OCD friend- house instead. Aiden tells Erick that Hope died two days ago. After words -not many of them nice- are exchange, Aiden convinces Erik that Hope left them [...]

  • Ms Rivers is a new to me author, and I was given the opportunity to read this book as an ARC.The book is due for release on 21st March 2016, If you are not lucky enough to get an ARC then do go buy this amazing book!!I have not been reading YA books as an adult for very long, but this one certainly rates up there with the likes of Jennifer L Armentrout, Colleen Hoover, and many others. The characters are well written and each has their own distinct personality and traits. They are all beautiful [...]

  • This review originally appeared on Novel Ink.I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This book absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. In the Hope of Memories follows four teenagers with only one thing in common: they all loved, and were loved by, Hope Jackson. The story is told through alternating POVs of the four main characters, and it follows the group as they go on a scavenger hunt thro [...]

  • Six stars. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm giving this book six stars. If only I could find a way to do that. Then I will. I definitely have to.This book is nothing short of brilliant. Goodness, I've never cried so hard in my entire life. This is a masterpiece. In the Hope of Memories deserves so much more attention, so much more readers because it touches hearts and souls. And I'm not kidding. Because it touched mine. Dang, this is quite difficult for me to write a review because I'm still clutching [...]

  • On Hope's eighteenth birthday - two days after she dies - her friends set off on a scavenger hunt around New York City. Erik, Aiden, Kali, and Sam all come from different walks of life and have never met each other before, but they all have something in common - Hope, and the fact that they are all broken. According to Hope and her favorite Red String of Fate myth, "some people are destined to change the fates of others." Under Hope's guidance, will this bunch of misfits be able to heal each oth [...]

  • Actual rating 2.5/5This is the story of a young girl, Hope, who dies of a rare heart condition, and before passing away organises a scavenger hunt for some of her friends. This way she wants them to meet and help each other the same way they helped her in the past. The premise of this book seemed pretty interesting, an having read (and loved) "Tone deaf" by the same author, I was excited about this one. And my excitement increased when I met the diverse range of characters. I mean, there are visu [...]

  • *I received this book for fee via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*Fate is a central theme in this book, and after devouring it in a couple of days, I’m left feeling like the fate in the story reached right out to me, as reader, and pulled me in. I selected this book quite randomly, thought the cover and premise looked interested, and requested it to review.I had no idea that this was The Book I needed right now. This is a book to restore your faith in humanity.Your muddled blindness [...]

  • I can't even explain how GREAT this book is pulled me in and spit me out a completely different reader. Can I give it 10 stars?I haven't read a book this amazing (and life changing) since Hopkins's CRANK.Olivia Rivers uses an unusual narration style to fully capture each characters voice. Her plot and characters are enthralling and their individual journeys are both heart wrenching and inspiring. If you love stories about young adults and their first ventures into adulthood (and the harsh realit [...]

Detaylı Yorum: thecenterwillholdSource: I received a digital copy of this book for free to review. Thanks to Red Sparrow Press and NetGalley.

  • (I received a copy from Netgalley, In exchange for an honest review.)Actual rating - 3.5There were a few times where the characters in this annoyed me, but for the majority of it they were okay characters. The slow pacing in this made the book drag slightly at times for me, but it was a decent read overall.

  • Thank you to the publisher, and NetGalley, for providing me with a digital copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.“She gave me the same thing she’s always given me. Hope.”I’m a little over the scavenger hunt trope in YA books, but I had some hope (pun intended) for this story. The scavenger hunt was a great way to bring together the lives/stories of such different people who were all suffering in their own way. It made sense to give them all a common goal to work towards [...]

  • *I received an ARC of IN THE HOPE OF MEMORIES from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. It took me literal ages to get into this novel, but once I did, there was no stopping me. I loved this book so much more than I thought I would.C H A R A C T E R S:Hope. Okay, we obviously don't see from her perspective, but I really love her. I aspire to be Hope, basically; she is the epitome of everything good.Sam. AAAAAA, MY FAVE. Sam is so wonderful and sarcastic and wonderful. Did [...]

  • I was provided with a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review! After finishing the book I was in this weird emotional state that had me completely lost for words and I am still not sure I have the right ones to explain how I felt while reading.First off, I think the premise is just extremely fascinating, but what really carried the story were the characters. Hope, even though you never actually meet her, is such a strong and commanding presence. I could picture her perfectly in my min [...]

  • (I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to Red Sparrow Press and Netgalley).Dealing with death and friendship while going on a scavenger hunt in the Big Apple? Sign me up! Olivia River's young adult novel sets out with a great premise, but can it actually hold up?At the end of summer break, Erik receives a party invite from his secret crush, Hope. But when he gets there he has to learn that Hope has died and has left him and three other friends, Aide [...]

  • What makes a book a 5 star book? For me, it has to be unforgettable. It has to have characters I fall in love with. And it has to be unlike anything I’ve ever read and make me feels things I’ve never felt from another book. It basically has to blow me away. I am not generous with my 5 stars, but this book deserves it.While this book is contemporary, it certainly isn’t a light and easy read. It deals with a ton of tough issues: OCD, anorexia, going blind, and sexual orientation, among other [...]

  • Netgalley Copy in exchange for an honest review. The story starts with Hope, dying and leaving behind four important people: her friends. Aiden, Erik, Sam and Kali. They don’t know one another but they are about to meet.Hope has set up a scavenger hunt for them to complete, fulfilling her dying wish that way and hopefully solving some of their problems at the same time.Where is this adventure going to take them?*** If you’re reading this, stop what you’re doing and go get this book. It’s a [...]

  • I can’t help it that I have a thing for books I think are going to make me cry. They’re irresistible, okay??? Surprisingly, I didn’t cry much in this little gem, though I did find myself laughing a lot. That’s probably because Hope, the deceased girl whose friends this book revolves around, is hilarious (yes, even in death), and I just couldn’t help but walk away from this story with my faith in humanity largely restored. This is a feel-good kind of book. If you need a pick-me-up durin [...]
