  • I received a free copy of Destruction from the author in exchange for an honest review. I'm afraid this book just isn't for me. I love the fantasy genre but I've come to the conclusion that this type of fantasy isn't my favorite style. There was nothing particularly wrong with the book (hence my undecided rating), it just didn't mesh with me.The writing style didn't work for me as it seemed to with some other people - I found the diary format to create a distance between myself and the main char [...]

  • It's like a remix of Game of Throne and Lord of the Rings and I love every single bit of it ! The story is about Helisah, a young elf girl starting her new school year in the kingdom of Callista like any college students. Until one day, her supposedly boyfriend Khal betrayed the land and helped out Thrakoth A Talurian lord to turn the city upside down and killing everyone. With the help of an assassin troup, Helisah will begin her journey to the road of revenge. I think this is the perfect book [...]

  • I was given this book in return for an honest review, and although I never read this author,I was leery of the chapters. Book one begins with the slaughter of Helisah Almari and her brother's parents when their city was attacked during a celebration. Aegras knew he must get his twin sister and as many of his people to safety, but once he heard in his mind that his father saying to run and Thakoth's evil laughter when he slit his father's throat, they rushed down streets and around corners with t [...]

  • This was a very fast and entertaining read!A story mixing, elves, dwarves, humans, and gunpowder is a mix I haven't read before. I have to say, that other than name I didn't notice a lot of difference between human, elf and dwarf. Though that didn't bother me, but it just felt right in this story.I liked the main characters, though I personally am not the biggest fan of diary style books. But I got used to that pretty quickly and got sucked right into the story. The one missing star is due to it [...]

  • Happy release day to all! This book is my own creation, so I am going to be a bit biased. With that said, you don't need to read the other series in this universe to understand this one, but you might get more out of it if you do.

  • I felt that the story is the summary of a greater one. The world, the complexity of the plot, and the diversity of characters could have made an excellent story. Yet it seemed to me to be lacking in emotions ; I couldn't really relate to the characters. Maybe the diary format made it this way, with brief and concise entries from the main character, Helisah. I couldn't manage to build a visual identity for any character or scenery, perhaps from the lack of description caused by a consistent journ [...]

  • Destruction follows the story of Helisah Almai, taking the form of a diary (or journal) as she documents the events after her city is destroyed and civil war looms on the horizon.I quite enjoyed reading this book; it certainly had its faults, which I will get to, but I felt th story was strong, generally believable, and really interesting. I received a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review. I finished it some time ago, but am now ready to write my review.Due to the [...]

  • 4 out of 5.So this took longer for me to read through not because it was a struggle to read it, but I wanted to keep reading it while fighting my urge to sleep. This book, this story, is just beautiful. The narrative is just freaking beautiful to me--it's written in diary format, yet it painted such a world in what's considered (for me) a short fantasy read. Eric did a superb job with the diary format.Helisah Almari is the voice of this story. Told through her eyes, it never faltered for me. I [...]

  • I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. You can view the original review on Genuine Jenn I don't normally read sci-fi fantasy but I have made a promise to myself last year to work on reading some genres that I haven't read before or only read a few of. I will admit to really enjoying this book. It is written by the main character, Helisah. A strong female character. She and her brother Aegras are on a journey to save back their land after an invasion. At first I was a li [...]

  • *I received a free e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review*I loved this book. The least I can say is that the action punches you in the face right at the beginning, coulnd’t ask for a better start! This book is different from most of the fantasy I’ve read. Even if the background seems common for fantasy, there are some big differences as well. One of the things, for me at least, is that the accent is put on the character not on the race of the character (no clich [...]

  • The author sent me a copy of Destruction in exchange of an honest opinion so here I go :I did enjoy this book but there was a few things that disturbed me First of all : the prologue. Prologues are quite to write so I understand that you knowbut this went to quickly, we barely even knew who was who, what was going on, that boom something major happened ! Her "boyfriend" betrayed the nation but this boyfriend she met him like two days before, we were told nothing about her feelings for him and th [...]

  • The United Kingdom of Callista prepares to celebrate their independence. But the celebrations are marred and exhilaration turns into anguish when the land is attacked by Telurian Lord Trakoth. Like other citizens, elf girl Helisah and her twin brother Aegras face the challenges of an apocalyptic war. Destruction is a sci-fi fantasy that goes beyond its genre. It has most of the qualities that make sci-fi likeable but it has elements that might appeal even to people who are not very interested in [...]

  • I really liked this book. However at the beginning I was confused about what was happening. This book is set in a fantasy world not so different from our own (Apart from the elves, dwarfs and magic). The story begins when Helishah and her brother Aegras meet the King and Queen of Callista. They are telepathic. Later on in their stay at the palace they are invaded by the Telurians and Helishah is betrayed by a man she thought she loved. Everyone in the palace was butchered even the King, Queen an [...]

  • Intriguing introduction to this world inhabited by elves, dwarves and humans. A world on the brink of war. It unfolds via journal entries by one of the main characters, Helisah Almari. Not a preferred style, but in this instance it worked rather well. Interesting world building; magic, telepathy and a medieval feel to the people and their villages and city. The resistance movement, including The Raiders, attempt to thwart the megalomaniac Lord Thrakoth were a fascinating group to follow, and in [...]

  • I received a copy of Destruction in exchange for my honest review. The story was interesting but I really struggled with the diary format of this book. It made it hard for me to feel invested to any character that wasn't Helisah, the one writing the diary. Getting diary entries to summarize the story seemed to allow for a quick pace of reading but at the same time I felt like i was missing details that could have allowed me to get into the story more. Towards the end I did find myself curious wha [...]

  • I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. I have to say that I am not a big fan of diary novels but for this story it worked. This is a good fantasy novel the story flowed well making it a quick easy and enjoyable read. I felt a little disconncted from the characters but I think that is a result of my bias towards this style of writing rather than the novel its self. I won't go into the details of the story here but if you like fantasy novels and you are looking for s [...]

  • I really enjoyed this book! It's a mix between Game of Thrones and Lord of the rings and I love Helisah! She's a great character. The story is truly amazing and all happens so fast, you couldn't catch your breath, so it's very breathtaking ;)I must say I don't usually like a story told in first person, but this book is an exception!I thank Eric Mrozek, who was so kind to send a copy for review!

  • I was given this book last year for a review, and am finally getting around to it now. I tried several times to get into this book, but I didn't really enjoy the style of writing. I really wanted to give a good review because the plot seems interesting, but it's just not my cup of tea.

  • Dnf.18% I didn't like the writing style nor could I figure out what was really going on. I did try but it seemed pointless. I really did try to give it a go.
