  • 3 - "I don't give up, and I don't quit." Stars.I really liked Locked in Stone it was beautifully written, vividly descriptive, with a whole plethora of otherworldly beings included in its pages it offered a varied and unusual storyline. If you put Gargoyles, Necromancers, Sentinels, Witches, Ghosts and Vampires to name but a few, into the mix you know you are in for a edge of your seat read. It trundled along nicely, although there was an awful lot of background information and plot development, [...]

  • Full review posted on my blog: Locked in Stone (Hearts of Stone #1)Cover: 5Plot: 5Characters: 5Overall Rating: 5Locked in Stone was a very spectacular book! Gargoyles was something that I always thought looked like this:and instead are beautiful bombshells that are extremely powerful and are capable of sealing rifts and thus saving the world. If you have been reading my reviews for a while now you'll realize that I'm a romance kind of girl even if its the cheesy type or the I'll-fuck-your-brains [...]

  • 4*sReview posted hereokpassionforlifeLocked in Stone is a great paranormal romance and as the title would suggest…. Has Gargoyles! As the synopsis tells us, Rose Johnson is forced to ask for protection from the Sentinels after the death of her adoptive mother and presuming that she is next. The Sentinels are more than happy to help when it is revealed that she is a Gargoyle and a special one at that. Rose has always been lead to believe that she is the last Gargoyle alive and that the Sentinels [...]

  • I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Net Galley for an honest reviewI had never heard of this author before, but decided to request her title as I have been looking for new areas of the paranormal genre to explore. I love my vamps and shifters, but think it is time to mix things up a bit and see what other creatures the genre has to offer. This one sounded promising so I asked to try it. I am so thankful that the publisher said yes because what a great new world and author I [...]

  • As the last being who stands between the world and the evils of Otherworld, Rose Johnson must keep her existence a secret and to do that she will have to engage the help of her enemies - the Sentinels in this enthralling paranormal romance.Years ago, Sentinel Cal Levesque failed Rose’s family and he’s never forgave himself and the reader can’t help but get drawn into the story as Cal has a chance to make things right but his attraction to Rose is making it very difficult for him to concent [...]

  • First of what has to become a series as surely this story isn't over? Rose finds herself left alone and as the only surviving Gargoyle seeks out the Sentinels who as angelic descendants are supposed to protect her kind. What she doesn't expect is to run into Cal the man who failed to protect her family from demons. Cal has always grieved for the family of Gargoyles that were slaughtered on his watch and now discovering that one escaped leaves him reeling. As they form an uneasy alliance there are [...]

  • DNF at 55%I tried, I tried to get in to this, but I just couldn't and reluctantly gave up. Thing is, I didn't dislike the characters or the storyline premise and it wasn't badly written, it was just that too much was happening yet at the same time I was bored. I guess I was hoping for a bigger injection of romance sooner.Copy received courtesy of NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

  • 3.5 Stars from me. I enjoyed the story and definitely would read more in this series. This was my first read from this author, well done Tory xxlater peeps xx

  • If you pick this up, be prepared. It might take you a few Chapters to get into this one. At least that’s how long it took me to even feel as though I was grasping enough of the story to continue. Entering this paranormal world was a challenge for me…mainly because I’ve read other stories about Gargoyles and had my own “opinions” on what to expect. And then throw in the powers of the Sentinels and I was a goner. Well, don’t make my mistake. Go into this with a complete open mind, expe [...]

  • Its the best fantasy book I've read this year. :) It's very well written and I liked the storyline as well as all the characters. There are a number of supernatural creatures which are involved protecting vs. destroying the earth. Sentinels are protectors of Gargoyles and Gargoyles help sacred mothers to protect the earth by stopping demons from invading our world. Their duty is to close the rift between the two worlds whenever it is opened. Then there are vampires, created by demons to make it [...]

  • Rose survived a terrible tragedy where she lost her sisters and family, and had to go on the run with the help of just one family friend, but now years later when she´s grown up, her only protector is murdered. The only choice she´s got now to get help is to turn to the ones who let her family down all those years ago - the Sentinels. Will they help and can she trust them despite everything? When the last Sacred Mother turns up on their doorstep the Sentinels can´t believe their eyes, they all [...]

  • I have to admit my knowledge about gargoyles is mostly the cartoon that I watched as a kid. This however changed my way of thinking. the story of Rose and Cal was well thought out. The plot moved at a fast pace & I didn't feel hurried by it. The romance aspect of it fit well with the story line. I like the fact that they interacted like adults would, not all star crossed & "sparkly". You are able to see how each of the characters matures and grows. My favorite scene is when then meet and [...]

  • Cal that boy has manners, "yeah, want a beer? My mother would have my hide if I didn't offer a guest a refreshment. And Lucas would have my head for being inhospitable to a gargoyle." Rose she seemed innocent and pure but she knew how to tease, "and is noticing me such a bad thing? You can't work and play at the same time?" The best scenes I thought were Cal and Tom's scenes I loved their bromance, "clothes are in the dresser. Consider putting something on before you join us," Cal said before bu [...]

  • The lore in this series is going to be something new and exciting. It's so unique!! I love when an author takes a paranormal creature, one many see as ugly and fearsome, and turns them into something beautiful and awe inspiring. The gargoyles are protectors of the world. They close the rifts that open up between us and the Otherworld (not a good place). The Sentinels are tasked with protecting them.Rose believes she is the last gargoyle - an orphan rescued from a horrible attack. But she soon le [...]

  • I received this from Netgalley/ Entangled publishing in exchange for an honest review. I have not read books about Gargoyles before and I just am not sure that I liked it. The story was okay but I just did not love it. I needed a lot more background information on the world that the author was trying to give us information about. The glossary at the beginning was not much help I just needed more.

  • 3.5 Stars!Locked in Stone was an enjoyable read for me, but left me a little frustrated (more on that later). The story begins with Rose, a Sacred Mother Gargoyle (she can shift from human to gargoyle whenever she wants, and has powers to protect the world from the otherworld), who is running for her life since her caregiver has been murdered. She has been instructed to seek out the Sentinels, a group of half-human/half –angels who are sworn to protect Gargoyles. When she reaches the closest g [...]

  • The start of this book left me feeling like I’d been dropped into the middle of a story or a series. There is so much backstory shoved at the reader that I began to feel like there was at least one more book out there that I should have read already. Mostly it was the situation between various characters that made me feel like I was missing so much stuff. Why is Cal called Cal Levesque now when Rose knew him as Robin? That question is never even considered, let alone answered. I get why he chan [...]

  • The author had me at gargoyle. I admit, I'm not a frequent reader of paranormal romance (paranormal anything, for that matter). Of the handful of paranormal stories I've read, the main character(s) were almost always a vampire, werewolf, or demon. These types of characters aren’t a real draw for me. But, perhaps due to my love for gothic architecture, I will always give a story about gargoyles a chance. In this book, I was intrigued by the Gargoyle-Sentinel relationship. I wanted to see how th [...]

  • I have been looking forward to reading this new series since I heard about it months ago. The story goes off to a slow start introducing us to this new world filled with Angels, Gargoyles, Witches and Vampires unlike you have seen before. Hang in there. It only picks up pace as we go along. Rose has a lot of anger inside her against the Sentinels, thanks to Gwen, which causes her to initially act like a class act towards them. When her anger begins to simmer down, we begin to see the woman she i [...]

  • This is my first time in reading this author and the premise of what lay inside drew me to this story. There are not a lot of really good novels that feature gargoyles especially as this author has portrayed them. They can usually be found in a story but secondary to say the least. In this one there is not one but many that are held within with characters that are very much alive and vibrant with each being fascinating in their own right. The most prominent one is Rose who has led a life of soli [...]

  • Rating: 4.5/5Rose Johnson believes she is the last gargoyle in the world and now the witch who rescued her when her family was killed, has now also been killed. Following the instructions the witch left she goes to seek the help of the Sentinels to protect herself and to regain the stone that holds her adoptive mum’s soul. When she reaches the Sentinels the first person she sees is the Sentinel who was supposed to protect her Mum but wasn’t even there when she was killed! Back then, twenty f [...]

  • Locked in Stone is a paranormal romance and the first book in the Hearts of Stone series by Tory Michaels. Rose Johnson's adoptive mother has been murdered, and Rose could be next. She may be the last gargoyle in the world—the last being who stands between this world and the evils of Otherworld. Sentinel Cal Levesque never forgave himself for failing Rose's family years ago. • 3.5-4 stars.Really interesting and loved the world building in this one.Rose is a gargoyle and Cal a sentinel with the job of protecting gargoyles (among other things). Now, the story was not mostly centered on Rose and Cal’s love relationship. Of course there is that, and is a slow burn; but the story deals with so much more.Rose’s mother and sisters were killed when she was little, and everyone thought she was dead as well. Now over twenty years later, she learns there are other gargoyles [...]

  • Review Courtesy of April HollingworthThis is the first book in the Hearts of Stone series. It can be read as a standalone, but to be honest you will want to know what happens next. Rose is a wonderful character, she’s strong and determined. Granted she doesn’t always listen, but she knows and admits when she’s wrong. Cal, is gorgeous, sweet, and wonderful. He’s also riddled with guilt, which he mainly doesn’t let interfere with his work. Throw in some other wonderful characters, and so [...]

  • 3.5 starsI liked this story and I would recommend it to lovers of paranormal romances. The world building was interesting though I needed a bit more. I absolutely enjoyed the mix of paranormal creatures introduced—we had Gargoyles, Necromancers, Sentinels, Witches, Ghosts, demons, Vampires…a great blend that made for a good read. That is what I loved the most about this book. The world. It felt fresh and exciting. There were a lot of info thrown at us at some bits, but I actually loved that. [...]

  • This is a contemporary Paranormal story of Gargoyles, Sentinels (half human/angel beings who are dedicated to protect gargoyles & to protect the Earth from demons) who are working to protect Earth from being taken over by demons. Rose is a gargoyle. When her mother & 2 sisters are murdered when she is a child of 4, she is spirited away & brought up by a woman she calls her adopted mother; Gwen a witch. Being a female gargoyle means Rose is a Sacred Mother, who has powers the males do [...]

  • *ARC provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for honest review* Thank You!!!I enjoyed this book, however if I’d known it was going to be a series I would have waited for the rest of the books to come out. I hate waiting.I will admit that it took me a little while to actually get into the book. I liked the authors take on Gargoyles and all the other super natural creatures. I honestly haven’t read any Gargoyle books, so it was nice to see the authors take.I did like Rose, but at times sh [...]

  • Received this book in exchange for an honest review. This was the first gargoyle style paranormal romance for me to read and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the sub-genre. I can get my mind to wrap around the vampires and shifters, but something about gargoyles just I can't do it.That saidTory does a really good job of setting the stage. She gives you a list of terms right at the beginning of the book, as well as describes the different levels, if you will, of the gargoyles throughout the [...]

  • ***A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for an honest review***This is a story about Rose Johnson and how she is may be the last gargoyle in the world. Sentinel Cal Levesque is in charge of protecting the gargoyles , especially Rose. After an incident some 20 years ago and the loss of his charge and her 3 daughters Cal has had this hole in his heart.Cal thought Rose died years ago and only did he realize Rose was quite alive. Cal was quite taken by Rose and the attraction was there betwee [...]
