  • A great (out of print) book that show a young girl and her struggle during revolutionary Paris, adulthood, loss and the wilds of new American wilderness. I feel the character is strong willed for what was expected of women in that time. I also enjoy that the author does not make her this brazen and over zealous trailblazer for women, which is off-putting in any historical fiction and a trend as of late.   • 2.5 stars This book was a bit of a mess. About a third of the way through things were going strong Good atmosphere, interesting scenarios, good writing. Then the author decided to give us a history lesson vaguely broken up with characters conversations. And then the last third of the book seemed to just be a very long epilogue. Maybe if I was not familiar with the French Revolution and history I would have enjoyed this more, as it was it was just a tedious (but well written) overview. Lastly, th [...]


  • I did not like this book mostly because the main character seemed like she didn't have a purpose unless she was worshipping people who cared much less for her. She did not have a personality or purpose of her own.
